Hi. I'm Billy . A Royal Navy trained Marine Engineer Mechanic with 18 years experience. I have all tickets to work offshore ( survival/ medical). All I need is that elusive career break to give a green hat a chance. If any one out there looking for staff give me a callSmile. Its proving difficult at the moment. I've sent off about 50 applications so far bur still waiting for that break

Told you it was a riot...... NGC1 was the hardest to get my head around... All that bloomin law bollox.....
Still finding it really hard to get work. All I get is knock backs. I am thinking of paying to get my CV looked at, seeing as tho' I acn't get it done at work through CTP.

Did get one reply in the negative so I phoned the guy up. The job was at Ocean-rig. All it proved was they don't even look at CV's. He said they want someone with all the tickets ie survival and medical, told him that I've got them on my CV. Then he said I needed experience in engineering so I pointed out that the job they have on their web site only required City & Guilds which I have ap-lenty.
I also pointed out I have 18 years experience of Marine Engineering and maintenance...
He caught me out when he asked for drilling rig experience. Got me there unless you count pillar drill on aft escape....
So all in all its pretty shit on the job front. If nothing comes up soon I will ahve to seriously look at signing back on the dotted line !!!!!!!!!

Good luck with the rest of the course. I'll see you when you get back...

Regards

Billy

have you tried contacting the HR people direct ? just to let them know who you are and what you can offer , there is a job fair on the 20th november in plymouth and another on 25th november in Perth , the Perth one is for offshore.
The CTP say the problem with sending off cv's is that the people who make the call on who to employ don't do the first sift , you get some young muppet with no real idea of what they are looking at , so they go on key words , i've applied for 30 jobs over the last 2 weeks and had 2 replys , saying that they have the cv and will be in contact once the final date is over, one is in bristol the other offshore , i'm going to step it up after the perth job fair , that gives me 4 months to find a job , after that my TVR toy is looking dodgy !!

Yes mate, I'm just struggling to find who to talk to. Most of the jobs are done through agency, so getting contact details is quite tough.
I am considering going to Perth myself, just got to look into cost, getting too close to Christmas and I'm rapidly running out of cash.
When are you back to work?
