Hi,

I graduated in 1997 with a 1st in Chemistry from UCL and subsequently went to work in IT. At the time of garaduation I interviewed with Shell for a graduate drilling engineer position, but was told that as my degree was in Chemistry I would have to go back and do an MSc in PE before they would consider me. At the time, this was not viable as I had a young family.

As a result, I finally took a graduate IT position for an aerospace company, before finally joining an investment bank. The last 4 years have been spent writing electronic trading systems for bond traders.

The reason I am posting, is that at the age of 39 I have concluded that a career in London in IT development is no longer for me and I want to investigate the possibility of obtaining a position as a PE. Whilst a year out to do the PE MSc is now an option, I want to make 100% sure that my age will not hinder the possibility of obtaining a role post completion.

Any comments or suggestions would be most welcomed.
