Many thanks to all who managed to get this site up and running, I think its a very good idea.

Hi all,

I'm Jon, I'm from Hull, England. I have a rigging background but I am hoping to get into the health and safety offshore.

If anybody thinks I can help them, please ask, if anybody thinks they can help me out, I would appreciate the advice.

There is quite a lot of advice out there, Google offshore oil gas catering and see what you get. Make sure your profile on Oil and Gas People is 100% complete and that you keep your availability status at green.

A couple of companies that have a large market share in the offshore oil and gas market are Sodexho and Compass. There are others as well.

Expect to start as a temp, i.e. holiday or sickness cover. This will be like a probation, you will get to visit a number of rigs, employment will be ad hoc and of varying duration up to 2 weeks. But prove yourself in these roles and you will get a permenent post.

I have been on rigs where some of the catering crew have been there man and boy for the last 20 years. It is often the case that their employment is transferred to a new contractor and stay in post even though the service provider has changed (oil & gas companies will tender for services such as catering on a 5 to 10 year cycle, but this is for the management of the service). So employment can be very stable once you get your foot in the door.

Good luck.

Hi there, My name is Willie and come from the UK and have worked in the oil and gas industry for 19 years now in various countries around the world. I am currently working in PNG where I started about three months ago. I am trying to build an even larger network of contact than I already have. For all the guys that are trying to enter into the oil and gas industry it can be difficult to get in these days and age appears to be a big factor. But dont give up, you never know, you might be in the right place at the right time. I just recently started a blog and basically write my mind on how I feel on that day, fel free to take a look and follow it. Now that I am a member here I hope I can be of help. Hello Revanth! I would suggest getting a profile set up on www.oilandgaspeople.com if you haven't already. It is a difficult market for those without much experience but there are opportunities out there, you just need to keep applying for relevant jobs. Good luck!
