Well it looks like no one wants to discuss the tree in the forest
here. Oil hit 81 today and yet they ( the Osama Admin) has yet to
move on approving permits to drill. This "downturn" in
our economy started when the administration in power turn us
into a "green" nation. Since I have been out of work and
constantly looking for work, there seems to be a gust of wind in
the woods but is it really a gust or just a mild
breeze. Multiple companies are advertising that they
are hiring but they hire none. They spend the wheels in
advertising but no positions get filled. I say this because one
they don't open emails nor do they respond to them and two guys
with more experience and knowledge are sitting on the sidelines
with me. This has got to change.

Hi Jim,
I have only just read your note and couldn't agree with you more!
Hundreds of jobs advertised and yet no one gets back to you when
you apply. I have been looking for a new position since June really
when I knew my contract would be coming to an end at the end of
July. I wasn't too worried as I needed a rest and August and
September are generally holiday months and quiet on the jobs front.
But I keep getting mail and calls about jobs I may be interested in
but they take an age to get back to you, if at all. I have had one
or two recruiters keep me up to date but they are few and far
between!
I would be interested in how and what changes can be made, surely
its about money isn't it? Money for new projects and the economy to
pick up especially in the Oil and Gas Construction area. Would be
interested in your comments.
Regards,
David

Hi guys
yeah i've been havng the same problem. Even though i'm a graduate
and underexperienced, i still feel i've got something to offer.
I've been applying for anything and everything as all the graduate
entry stuff doesn't start till next year which is pointless in my
case as i need a job NOW! I have heard in the past of companies,
especially large ones, advertising for graduates then they hire
none. In my point of view this is a really crap way to do business
as guys spend ages on stupid applications with loads of personality
and pshycometric testing and all for nothing. For most of the jobs
i apply to, i don't get any feedback and i have taken to speaking
to people directly as my frustration mounts. I really hope
something picks up soon as my savings are slowly disappearing. As
for the whole green movement, don't even get me started, the whole
CO2 boogie man theory makes me want to throw the tv out the
window.
Cheers
Chris

Hi Guys,
Companies are attempting to build up profiles for the awaited turn
in the financial market. Anticipating the turn they feel the need
to build a pool of possible employees, doing so only creates
expectations which could damage the reputation of such companies.
However, the companies seems to ignore the possible implications of
such actions. It is fine to advertise posistion, but dates should
be clearly set for recruitment and subsequent approval or
disapproval.
Regards,
Francois.

Hi Guys,
I agree with you all I have been looking for work as a Derrickman
since June this year i have over 23 years offshore drilling
experience international and north sea. I got my hopes built up 2
months ago when stena drilling flew me up from stoke on Trent where
i live to Aberdeen for a face to face interview. When i arrived
there. it was me. the rig manager and a young lady(20 ish) from
H.R. who clearly did not know one end of a rig from another. anyway
the rig manager was clearly impressed with my work history and all
my certificates. After a while he had to leave so that left me and
the H.R . lady to discuss salary. yessssss i thought i've got the
job.then 2 days later i get an e-mail to say that there is no
positions available.can anyone explain.
P.S. If anybody out there is looking for an experienced Derrick man
pleas get in touch.
e-mail: deekscfc@hotmail.co.uk.
cheers Derek McIntosh.

i also assume , print media like appointment/employment papers in
most of the country is part of this crime.most of oil & gas
major company's have an yearly contract for job advertisements and
now even if there is no vacancy , company/newspaper post
advertisement and make fun of this situation.

Oh dear, there is clearly alot of inexperienced people in the
recruitment section. All i can say to anyone who is experiencing
this is DONT GIVE UP, there is always a solution to a problem and
just keep on trying, eventually you will get a position. Good Luck!

Not
only inexperienced people in some of recruitment sections, but
these people have now become untouchable - a world of their own!
More the companies invest in recruitment departments more these
departments are becoming completely alienated: they do not answer
applicant’s emails, they refuse to accept phone calls from
candidates, they refuse to give the name of recruitment agency
that company uses, etc.
These
recession days recruiters see candidates simply as a commodity on
which they will get commission. Human resources should mean
really what it says: in a human manner communicate with
a candidate. I am talking about London job market. As an oil and
derivative trader, I have been looking for a commercial or
administration opportunity in South West London or Surrey - only
small number of recruiters handle communication with candidate in
a way it should be handled.
