Start with a brief personal statement. Include information about the role and the place you found it. Shouldn’t take up more than a few lines.

Don’t be cold! Be personal! Unlike a CV the covering letter must be more personal to you and personal to suit the employer.

Finish on a positive! Talk about why you wish to work for thecompany and which is the best way tocontact you to discuss the opportunity further.

A covering letter that reflects your personality and how you are likely to work within oil & gas shows the recruiter your passion for the position and show how much you really want it.

Below are a few points to make sure you include:

Your contact information – be sure to have your first and last name. Add your address phone and email address for the company to contact you on.

Date – It’s important to include the date your covering letter was recreated so a recruiter knows how old the covering letter is.

Body – This is the bonus and most important part of the covering letter, It is important you have a clear understanding of the role and you that you can show this within your covering letter.

With the present decline in the gas and oil industry along with the recent trend for pay offs and pay cuts, a vast majority of individuals are looking for better prospects. The down turn has resulted in fewer jobs but more people looking for work. It’s a difficult situation for recruiters, now more than ever they are being inundated with CV’s from potential candidates.
